Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Sport and Physical Activity at Dural Public School

The sports program offered at Dural Public School caters for a wide range of sporting abilities, aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The goal at Dural Public School is to give students the opportunity to experience a range of fun, active, achievable and challenging activities to ensure that students develop positive attitudes to physical activity.

Sporting activities on offer at Dural

Some of the sports that are offered to the students are cricket, squash, golf, dance, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, league tag and Australian Football league.

Carnivals - Swimming

Our annual swimming carnival is held in Term 1 at Waves Swimming Pool at Baulkham Hills. This carnival is open to all students who are 8-13 years old. This is the first step in the process of representing Dural at Zone, Area, State and National level.

Unfortunately Dural Public School does not have a pool so we are unable to prepare students for this carnival.

Carnivals - Cross Country

Our annual cross country carnival is held towards the end of Term 1 within the grounds of Dural Public School. This is a whole school carnival. The course is very challenging due to the hills and slopes within the school. The top 5 in each age division progress to the Beecroft PSSA Zone Cross Country to compete against 21 other schools at Fagan Park in Galston.

In preparation for this event we regularly walk/run the course. This ensures all students are familiar with the course and have the opportunity to improve their fitness, strength and endurance.

Carnivals - Athletics, Track and Field Events

Our annual Athletics Track and Field Events are held over two days at the end of Term 2 within the school grounds.

The field events are a marvellous opportunity of students aged 8-13 to showcase their abilities in long jump, high jump, shot put and 800m heats. Qualifications for these events is held throughout Term 2 and conducted by classroom teachers.

The track events are 100m, 200m and 800m. All track events have heats and finals.

In preparation for our athletics carnival, we offer programs to develop skills required for high jump, shot put, long jump, sprints and relays.

Sports in Schools

Another program on offer is the Sport in Schools program. This focus is on the five essential skills that students should develop according to the  PD/Health/PE syllabus. The areas for development are communicating, decision making, interacting, moving and problem solving. This program offers our students a diverse range of equipment so that students can develop balance and core stability, fitness, throwing and catching and most important, having fun and being part of a team.
