Our extra-curriculars and opportunities

Runner's Club
One of our dedicated teachers runs a Runner’s Club during lunchtimes, where students learn key running skills and have the opportunity to practice sprints, jogging, and group running activities.

PSSA
Students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 can try out for the Primary Sports in Schools Association (PSSA) Friday interschool competitions. Those selected represent the school each Friday by competing against other schools in the Beecroft Zone area in sports such as teeball, league tag, netball, and soccer. This program offers a great opportunity for students to develop their skills, enjoy team sport, and build school spirit.
PSSA teams train weekly either before school or during lunchtimes (weather permitting).

Zone Carnivals
Students compete in their school carnivals, and the top competitors in each age group are selected to represent Dural Public School in the Beecroft Zone. The Beecroft Zone convenes three carnivals each year: Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics. Successful students from the zone carnivals may then have the opportunity to compete at the area level.

Chess
Chess players meet every Thursday lunch time where they receive instruction from the visiting chess tutor. All children are welcome to join this group. Fees are paid at the beginning of each term and forms are available from the office.
Capable students may take part in the Primary Schools competitions.
Details of the chess competition are found on www.nswjcl.org.au
Interested students can obtain details from Mrs Dwyer.

Board Games Club
Board Games Club is held every Tuesday lunchtime. Students are welcome to come to the Blue Playground to play a variety of games with their peers.

K-2 Tech Club
Open weekly at lunchtime, K-2 Tech Club helps younger students build key digital and technology skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Ukulele Club
Ukulele Club is a fun, welcoming space for students of all skill levels to pick up an instrument and strum along, no prior experience needed! Students can join or leave at any time during lunchtime, learning to strum, practice chords, or simply jam to music with our ever-evolving band, Mr Field and the Uku-ladies and Gentlemen.

Band - Senior Concert and Beginner
Dural Public School offers a dynamic band program for students from Year 3 onwards, welcoming beginners as well as experienced musicians. The program includes a beginner band and a senior band, providing students the opportunity to enjoy music, learn an instrument of their choice, and perform in groups suited to their skill level. Students must bring their own instruments, and instrument hire is not provided. The program encourages teamwork and responsibility among all members, supporting a range of abilities and musical interests.

String and Recorder Group
Students from the Opportunity Class and our string players meet during lunchtimes to perform musical pieces using string and recorder instruments. This collaboration helps develop skills, teamwork, and a love of music. They perform regularly at school events and open days, enriching the school community with their music.

Choir
Dural Public School has three choirs for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, led by three talented teachers. The K–2 choir performs at various school events, while the Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs participate in school, community events, and special concerts. We encourage all students interested in singing to join and be part of our vibrant school choir program.

K-2 Dance Group
The K–2 dance group meets at lunchtime, giving younger students a fun opportunity to explore their creativity and express their flair through movement.

Drama Groups
Dural Public School offers K–2 and 3–6 drama groups that meet during lunchtimes. Students write, act, and direct plays while exploring movement, space, facial expressions, and voice, all while developing new characters and building their performance skills.

Student Voice Council (SVC)
SVC members attend lunchtime meetings to discuss suggestions from their peers and decide on actions to improve Dural Public School. This is a valuable leadership opportunity where students contribute to positive change. Dural Public School embraces feedback and continually strives to enhance the experience for students, teachers, and the wider school community.

Debating and Public Speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Trips and Excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
