Beecroft Zone PSSA
Friday PSSA Sport Policy
The Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) is a competitive sports program that provides students with the opportunity to represent their school in inter-school competitions. At Dural Public School, students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 participate in the Beecroft Zone PSSA competition each Friday.
Participation in PSSA is a privilege and all students selected to represent Dural Public School must sign a Code of Conduct. This policy ensures that our school is represented by students who:
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship towards both teammates and opponents
- Display respectful behaviour at school that reflects positively on their team and school
- Play by the rules and accept decisions made by referees or umpires without argument
- Encourage and support their fellow team members
- Maintain self-control and refrain from negative comments or gestures
These expectations help foster a positive, respectful sporting environment both on and off the field.
Beecroft PSSA Zone PLAYER'S CODE OF CONDUCT
"It isn't whether you win or lose, but how you play the game."
(from Grantland Rice)
- Play for the fun of it.
- Compete by the rules and always abide by the referees' or umpires' decisions.
- Control your temper. Make no criticism either by word or gesture.
- Work equally hard for yourself and your team – your team's performance will benefit and so will your own.
- Be willing to train and prepare for the game. Preparation helps prevent injury and increases the level of enjoyment.
- Play only when you are fully fit. To play with an injury will handicap your team, and may expose you to the risk of serious, lifelong injury.
- Be a good sport. Encourage fellow team members.
- At all times cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents.
- Remember the goals of the game are to have fun and improve your skills. Be modest in success and generous in defeat.
Beecroft PSSA Zone PARENTS' CODE OF CONDUCT
"If children participating in sport are to develop basic skills and experience the fun of
playing, they require thoughtful and purposeful adult assistance."
(The Hon. Baldock, M.H.A. Tasmania)
- Do not force an unwilling child to participate in particular sports.
- Remember children are involved in organised school sports for their enjoyment and fulfilment – not yours.
- Encourage your child always to play by the rules.
- Teach your child that honest effort is as important as winning so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
- Encourage your child to work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule your child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
- Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposing team.
- Do not publicly question the officials' judgement and never their honesty.
- Appreciate the contribution and commitment of teacher/coaches. They give their time and resources to provide sporting activities for your child.
- Have realistic expectations for your child and his/her team – do not expect more than they can give.
Dural Public School – PSSA, Knock Out and Gala Day
Selection Policies
PSSA Knock Out Selection Policy
Teams for the NSWPSSA Knock Out competitions are selected based on elite sporting ability.
While the majority of team members are typically drawn from Year 5 and Year 6, students in Year 4 who demonstrate exceptional talent may also be considered. In these rare cases, a highly skilled Year 4 student may be selected ahead of an older student.
Selection is strictly merit-based, ensuring that our school is represented by the most talented and capable players available.
Gala Day Selection Policy
Selection for Gala Days is based on:
- Age groups
- Team numbers allowed by event organisers
- Student interest within the school
Depending on the structure of the Gala Day, multiple teams may be entered and, if necessary, graded according to skill level.
Behaviour Expectations
The Principal and Sports Coordinator reserve the right to:
- Withdraw any student from a team or event if their behaviour at school or during sports events (PSSA, Knock Out, Gala Days) is inappropriate.
- Review and adjust selections based on a student’s conduct.
All students are expected to uphold the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect while representing Dural Public School.
